What is the ranger challenge?

If you do they ranger challenge while in ROTC, do you become a ranger for sure?

  Ranger School has nothing to do with becoming a Ranger. One must pass RASP I (enlisted) and RASP II (NCO/Officer) and serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment to be a Ranger. Officers that wish to become Rangers must have already completed Ranger school and enlisted Rangers must complete Ranger school in order to hold leadership (NCO) positions in the Ranger Regiment. That said, the ROTC Ranger Challenge has nothing whatsoever to do with becoming a Ranger. It's just something created to get you in physical shape and give you a sense of pride. It doesn't give you an edge or advantage over anyone else trying to become a Ranger. Being prepared physically and having the heart and mental drive to push on, even when things seem impossible, gives one an edge on becoming a Ranger. If you want to become a Ranger, you will need to do some research on what it takes for officers to get into the Ranger Regiment. You must be at least a 1st LT with platoon leader time (infantry) and 12 months on station to put in a packet. It is very competitive so you need to be proficient, motivated and have completed the prerequisites. You will also need to be in a branch (ie, Infantry, Military Intelligence, Field Artillery, Signal Corps, etc), MOS and rank that the 75th Regiment needs.
