What does the ROTC have to offer me?

Does the af rotc offer tuition assistance that is not a type 1, 2 or 7 scholarship?

  • I'll be joining as a junior and doing a three year program (so I'll be a fifth year senior), but my academic scholarship is only guaranteed for four years (and only covers 1/2 of school tuition), and my school is pretty expensive. I will apply for an extension, but there's no guarantee I'll get it. I know I can apply for a 2 year rotc scholarship next year, but is there any other kind of tuition assistance available if I'm not awarded the two year scholarship? also, I heard that, in the past, cadets who joined as juniors could be awarded four year scholarships and complete grad school with the extra two years, is that still true? if so, what are the odds of getting that approved with my det?

  • Answer:

If you get a ROTC scholarship for the AF, they will help, if not pay for all of your schooling. I had a friend that got a 7yr Scholarship straight out of HS. If you already have a scholarship from someone else, the AF will not give you another. It will be your Academic or AF scholarship. You cant have both. I have no idea where you got your information about joining as a junior. You will not receive a Scholarship if you are past your Sophomore year in college. The AF will not pay for grad school. Just remember once you complete ROTC program, you owe the AF a minimum of 7yr contract.
