How hard is it to get into the NROTC?

How hard is it to get an NROTC scholarship?

  • I'am a senior in highschool played football for all 4 years an I did track and field for 2 years. I can get a 290-300 on the PFT, I have a 3.5 GPA I took no AP classes but I took honor classes all 4 years. I also have a part time job. And I scored 1200 on the ACT test. I also took 4 years of MCJROTC. If it makes any difference I want to go Marine option. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

The scholarship is very competitive, with a main focus on academics. Not having taken any AP classes will hurt a little. Also, I'm guessing you mean SAT score since ACT is scored out of 36 points. In which case your SAT score is very low so that will hurt you. I believe it is also to late for you to apply for the scholarship for next year, so you will most likely have to look into the college programmer option, where you attend all the NROTC functions but do not get paid to do so. You can then apply for a full scholarship each semester. Look to see what schools you want to go to have a NROTC program, or if any of the nearby schools have one as you can attend NROTC from a nearby school. Call the recruiting officer at the NROTC Program and find out what you can.
