POLL: If you were to join a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, which would you join and why?

I did join the Army and then went Rangers. I wanted combat and I wanted to do things I did not have the chance to do before I enlisted, such as Parachuting, Rappelling, learning to live off the land, and walk down the street knowing everyone respected me, they may not have liked me or what I did for a profession, but they respected me.

After being in the Royal Navy and then being a US Navy wife, now the mother of USAF I would honestly say I would sway towards the USAF..............being female etc etc it seems to give the best opportunities for females to advance.

ARMY; I know it best. Plus now my husband is army and we want to stay together.

ive joined the army. my first choice was the air force, but at the time, i was in high school and had braces and the air force recruiter said that he wouldnt accept me because of that. after i talk to him, i spoke to an army recruiter and he said that he would take me to meps and such, but i just had to have my braces off before i left for basic. (the army was my second choice)

Army National Guard. If you want to talk about getting back to the founding principals of our constitution, it's hard to argue that the founders didn't intend for each state to have a militia and that be it. They made very clear that people should distrust a strong central government. The Active forces are just that, a projection of a strong central federal government. I'm a conservative and love the constitution. The guard is fully capable of any mission, state or federal. I know of Army Guard Styker units that have been attached to Marine units in Iraq and did the exact same things. The guard, when not forward deployed it is not an immensense drain on our economy as the active forces are... we see how important the federal budget is in today's economy. Guard soldiers are able to not only serve their country but also raise a family, get an education and contribute to the economy by working as an employee or as an employer. The Guard has defended this continent since 1636, since the Massachusettsets colony. You want to talk about false bravado and beating your chest, seeing who can yell the loudest or who has the meanest war face. A man with a gun, that's all it takes, break it all down and it comes down to simple military tactics and private sector tech. The military isn't rocket science, it's simply about killing the enemy, and it doesn't take much training to do that. We got Jets, we got grunts, we got SF, we got trucks. We are a totally self contained force withing each state. 29 U.S Presidents have been Guard Soldiers, namely George Washington. We are the force the founders envisioned for this country.

Coast Guard The Coast Guard has much more of a law enforcement focus, but still deploys. They also have the ability to qualify as a federal law enforcement officer, regardless of what job you do. They get nice housing, get to travel, and lets face it, are always on a beach. People seem to think they just stay on the U.S. Coasts. They are all over the world. I know a Lieutenant who just came back from Italy, after serving 2 years there. He was one of the port security specialists for Africa.
