What is race-pace training?

How Long is Basic Training and what types of training take place at Ft. Benning?

  • My boyfriend just recently left for basic training for the army. He told me he was going for airborne, but I later found out from others that he went for infantry. Hes stationed at Ft. Benning, GA so what types of training occur there and how long is this training?

  • Answer:

Your Boyfriend is in Infantry Basic Training. It is called OSUT. Fort Benning does have one Basic Training Battalion, but 98% of enlisted soldiers there are Infantry. Fort Benning is also the home of the US Army Airborne School. So it is very likely that he has Airborne in his contract, and after 14 week in OSUT, he will go to 3 weeks of Airborne. Most careers in the Army do 8 weeks of Basic, and then AIT which the length of is based on the job. Infantry OSUT is 14 weeks non-stop. 8 weeks of basic and 6 weeks of Advanced Infantry Training.

My hubby is in the infantry part there. It is BCT and Ait put together (called OSUT). I'm pretty sure as of November they changed BCT to 10 weeks instead of 9. So my hubby's there for 15 weeks total. He gets to come home for Christmas Exodus. Two week break. I believe the rumor is Dec 18 through Jan 3. Hope this helps. If you need someone to talk, email. I'm in the same boat as you.

Fort Benning has OSUT (One Station Unit Training) that includes 8 weeks of basic training and 8 weeks of Infantry Skills Training. You will be stationed in one of their "star ships" that houses a whole training battalion and it's headquarters staff personnel. If you just take the basic training, it lasts for 8 weeks and your specialist training # of weeks depends on what MOS (job title) you are going to be trained in.

8weeks then he'll have maybe a week then he goes of to learn his job. so depending on that you might see him a few times in the next 18+ weeks
