Why is The Viking military and technology important?

• Hi everyone, I am writing my last point on The Vikings for my rough thesis and essay notes. I just need some important factors on why their military was important in the past and in the present. I have looked at multiple reliable search engines and have not found enough information on their military. Please do not post military strategies because that is not what I am looking for. What I am looking for is the military and technological benefits and importance of The Vikings. Only answer this question if you have reliable knowledge of what I am looking for. Do not use Wikipedia as your sources because that is not reliable whatsoever for my assignment. I appreciate all the help.

  It's very difficult to talk about their importance as a military if you don't talk about the strategies that they used. They didn't have a formal military structure, which might explain why you can't find anything on it. But I am sure you know that already seeing as that you are are almost finished writing your thesis. Edit; I gave this some thought while I was in the shower. You could draw a line between Viking mercenaries (google Jomsvikings and Varangian Guard) and modern military security contractor companies.
