ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN?

Navy Nuclear Electronics Technician or Advanced Electronics Computer Technician?

  • Going in to the Navy got an 80 on the practice. Going to MEPS on Monday and I'm looking for some suggestions. My recruiter has told me about the 2 different Ratings in the title (refer back to the title if you already forgot them). My goal is to leave the Navy and become a Robotics Engineer. The recruiter had his friend come in who was a "Nuke" and he told me the Nuke program will encompass some aspects of what i want to do when i get out, but the Advanced Electronics Computer Technician (for time purposes im gonna call it AECT it may not be an actual acronym for it) would have more aspects of the Robotics Engineering job which i wish to accomplish after I get out. So at this moment im leaning towards the Nuke program because of an enlistment bonus and a high reenlistment bonus at this moment. So it looks pretty nice, but at the same time i think it would be good to go in to this AECT program to learn more about the job I want to do when I get out. I know that i will see the job counselor at meps, but i wanted an outside opinion from people that have done either of those jobs. So if you could give me your input on which i should pick and why i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

  • Answer:

that sucks I got an 80 on my azvab but I only had a ged I would have gone nuke but I barely got in on waivers plus I had no high school diploma so could not get the clearance you will probably have good civilian job security either route you go so pick what interests you more be sure to use your smart transcript to keep track of credits get copies while you are in tech training and ask on the ship how you can track your hours logged for experience and be sure to get the required civilian qualifications and education while you are still in the service if possible then you will have experience and education on your side when you enter the civilian world you will become an unstoppable employable machine
