Can I go to college and be an EMT at the same time?

Can I go active duty as an aviation mechanic and go to college at the same time?

  • My plan is to go into the marine corps as an active duty aviation mechanic and go to college at the same time studying aeronautical mechanics for 4-6 yrs, and then retire from the corps when I'm 38 and began a new career as an engineer working on jets and helicopters for the goverment. Is this a likely or possible scenario? How much of college will the corps pay for? What colleges will i have to choose from? Do I just sign up for college once I'm out of boot camp or what?

  • Answer:

I am not really sure about the Marine Corps, but I do know that you would be guarantee your Aviation Mechanic job and be able to go to college for free while on Active Duty as long as you fully qualify. You will know your job before you go to Basic Training. SSG Schramm US Army 15 years OIF 2003 US Army Recruiting 3 years running in Texas

Well I know in the ARMY, you can do it, almost every post has a Emmry Riddle (the top aeronautical college), with a couple professors, and they offer full bachelors degrees right there. All of it is payed for by the Army except for books, but since its all getting payed for, you can at least pay for them.

I am retired USAF acft maint...141, c5, 130. I can tell you that in the AF you can definitely do exactly that and they will bend over backwards to help you. The college youll have to pick from depends on were you get stationed...whats close or you can do alot from extension. Several friends of mine did various combinations of classes and then worked pert time at the local airport to finish. I do not know how much the military pays for college anymore but any recruiter could tell you that. Also, the AF you may be able to select a base youll be stationed so you could pick one near a good school. If you want more info about acft maint in the AF you can email me at [email protected]
