Double majoring in business management and political science?

Business management major and political science minor and USMC?

  • I plan on going to college and then going into the Marine Corps as an officer. I want to get involved in government after the Marines. Would majoring in business with a minor in political science be a good option? Should i try to double major? What degrees should i go for and mix?

  • Answer:

Almost none of the Universities with top rated Business Schools offer an undergraduate degree. Economics is the expected degree at elite universities for those going into finance/management consulting. A working knowledge of Economics is very useful for most politicians. So, is an understanding of the Federal Tax Code, so suggest taking Federal Taxation-Individual and Corporate. Most of the lobbyists in Washington are concerned with sections of the Tax Code. Accounting is the language of Business and financial accounting courses are by far the most useful undergraduate business offerings. At least Financial Accounting, if time, Intermediate Financial and if possible Advanced Financial. Major in Economics and study a critical language for the military like Japanese, Chinese, Arabic or Russian. Can also double major in Economics and the Critical Language or double major in Economics and an International Area Studies major that includes studying the language such as Asian Studies or Near Eastern Studies. Good Luck!
