What is it like to be a Surgical Tech?

What is Satellite Telemetry and Wideband like? What are the tech schools (keesler and gordon) like?

• I picked Satellite Telemetry and Wideband as my MOS. I see that i'm going to have to be at Keesler AFB for 8 months then i'll be shipped to FT Gordon for the remaining 17 weeks. So, my questions. For those with experience, what is the MOS like? I scored an 88 on the asvab, is the job comparable with my score?(Joined the guard so I only had a limited amount of jobs available to me). What will tech school be like for me with this MOS? FT Gordon? FT Keesler? Any and all info will be GREATLY APPRECIATED as i'm trying to get an idea of what to expect. THANKS!

  You will get lots of "hands on" compared to a college course. Don't know about Keesler but did 6 months at Gordon before you were born. It's the South, other than more WalMarts I doubt it is to much different from then. I stayed out of the places known to be wild. We went to places in town that had a mix of local and a few GI's. Never had any trouble. Did meet a guy that did AF Ait in 68 @ Keesler. He had some interesting things happen like being refused service at a diner cuz he is from CA. Was there from Oct 73 - Mar 74. Check out the Rod and Gun Club. We went out there and used the row boats. Just watch out for the water moccasins. It's like the swamp featured in "Cool Hand Luke". There is a Stable there too. The Gym was in good shape and probably better now. There was plenty to do to kill time on base too. If your not from the South get into town and try some food you have never had.
