What is the difference between the Air Force and the Army?

  • Hey, everyone in my family has been in the Air Force, but I would like to join the army. What is the difference, I know the saying where Air Force and Navy eat steak while Marines and Army eat hotdogs. But I know there is more than just that? How do they treat you in the Army vs. Air Force? And what roles can women do in the army as I want to be an Army medic.

    The Army is a much larger organization (about 4 times bigger) than the AF so there are some differences. The AF typically does have nicer facilities and are farther away from danger in a combat zone, but I can't speak directly with how they treat you as I have never been in the AF so I only know general things about it through my experiences talking with AF personnel. I have been Army for 12 years now and I really enjoy it. Women are allowed to do everything in the Army except those jobs that are classified as Combat Arms (Infantry, Artillery, Armor, Cavalry). You will have no problem becoming a medic as long as you meet the prerequities for the MOS. In fact, the medical field in the Army has one of the highest concentrations of female soldiers. I almost wish I had become a medic instead, lol. In Iraq I traveled alot in my job and to me the Army dining facilities were WAY better than the AF ones. I don't know if the Army just had more money to spend or what, but that was my experience. That may not be the case everywhere though. I come from a family of AF personnel as well and you just have to do what makes you happy and decide what are the reasons you are wanting to join one as oppossed to the other. Don't let other people dictate what you will do with your life. If you do, it will never truly be your life.

The air force provides a better way of life! They have higher standards! My husband and i went to an army px the other day to eat and it was SO dirty! The AF base has NEVER been that dirty! The air force just takes much better care of you! I have met a lot of people in the army that say they wish they had joined the USAF. I have NEVER heard someone in the air force say they wish they joined the army. So if you want to be taken care of better, go to the air force. air force-6 month deployments army-12 month deployments

There's an old joke that when the Army builds a base they build the HQ, PX, and hospital first. The Air Force lays out the golf course first. I've heard advancement is not so fast in the Air Force. Other than that, the Air Force is the way to go.

The Air Force drops bombs and destroys things and say that they won the war. The Army is the Infantry, the Artillery, and the Armor that goes face to face with the enemy and REALLY wins the war. The Navy sits off the coast and kibbutzes, while they send in the Marines to kick butt and rescue the Army. (I am a an ex-sailor and I know of which I speak! LOL!)

airforce is people in the air, like piloting airplanes navy is in the water, on ships and army is the infantry, the spare meat. basically they just run with guns dodging bullets.

Army is boots on the ground, life on the line. Air Force is, if you are lucky, flying a plane/aircraft. Staying at a base directing UMA's like the Predator, tasking satellites and possibly getting into the Space Program.
