I checked the www.bls.gov to read some of the description of this occupation, and I want to know someone's thoughts about this or experience. Thanks.

    As a paralegal, I can do anything your attorney can do except represent you in court. I cannot accept a case, set a fee, or give legal advice. I must know a wide variety of legal concepts, be organized, have an understanding of state and local rules, be diplomatic and trustworthy. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree with a paralegal major...not necessary but it gives a great edge when competing for a job.

Its a great job! You must be able to keep professional under all circumstances. Most of the clients we have come to me before they go to the attorneys, so, I would say you have to be able to advise the client without giving legal advise. I don't know the law like the Lawyers I work for, but I back up what they do and finish projects for them. I never had any formal education concerning the law, I was very lucky to get hired by an attorney that thought I had the potential to do the job. Learning it the hard way is not the best way, but it was the only way I had, I am going to school to "polish" my skills and be able to bill much more than my current $85 an hour for my research. Good luck, its a great field to be in!
