Is that hard to find any job with dui?

Can't go to school for HVAC because of DUI?

  • A friend of mine says that he is not allowed to go to school for HVAC because he has a DUI. Everything I find on the internet about this just talks about how it's hard to get a job in HVAC with a DUI or various other infractions on your record. I understand that an HVAC technician has to drive around and whatnot, but this seems like some serious BS. Is there any way around this? Any cases where people fought this rule and won? Thank you for any information.

  • Answer:

Hard to respond to a hearsay "rule" without anything actually being cited.

It really depends on the job classification and the state where you are in. For those who need to drive all the time, it will be a major consideration factor. For those spending hours at the desk it will be no major concern. Also you are not criminal once you got sentenced and follow court's order. I've seen a teacher with similiar violation, but she was performing her job with no problem. Everyone makes mistake, but it's not something that will haunt you for the rest of your life time. In your case, I don't see any relation between your DUI record and the job description...Why is it preventing from your friend going to school of whatever?? We see lots of people on the street with DUI records EVERY DAY ! This is just going to school, not getting an interview or job application.... See below for more explanation on DUI and employment.

It really just depends on the business. Ask him what businesses he has applied at, then call those businesses and ask them their policy on a DUI charge. If it's a school, tell him to try another school. Most businesses don't care about DUI or misdemeanors, but most care about felonies.

A HVAC Contractor auto fleet insurance provider will not cover a worker who has been convicted of DUI. I personally have known several people who were fired/layed-off for this very reason. However, a DUI conviction should have no bearing on whether or not you have the credentials to attend HVAC Tech school.

having a dui charge on your driving record will keep you from getting a job that requires you to drive the company does not want there insurance to go up si it is not BS that is the law
