What exactly is a certificate of studentship?

Please advice regarding marriage certificate..?

  • Hi I got married on 20 JUL 2010, I applied for marriage certificate in OCT 2010, My wife's passport was about to get expired so she had to get it renewed. Now we were in a bit hurry as she had to soon get started processing in her office for some foreign assignment. But we didn't get certificate by that time so we applied for her passport renewal on 26 NOV 2010 on SINGLE basis (as we didn't get marriage certificate by that time and for showing MARRIED status, it was mandatory to produce marriage certificate). 4 days later, we got marriage certificate with registration date as 18 NOV 2010, previous to the day we applied for passport renewal. There was delay in getting certificate as the person who had to hand over the certificate to us was out of office. Now, there we did a big mistake UNKOWINGLY. We applied for passport renewal on Single basis thereby hiding information that she was married. We didn't know that it may cause problem in future. Now, as we have got the marriage certificate, but registration date is 18 NOV 2010, we applied for passport renewal on 26 NOV but actually got it after 26 NOV only. Now we need to get the passports updated on married basis but we are thinking that it may cause problem as we did hide information, whatever the circumstances. Legally, its wrong. We may be blamed of not telling that my wife was married at time she applied for passport renewal (irrespective of whether we got marriage certificate or not) .Now if we think the alternatives to this, we can get our marriage registered some where else that the first place (but it will require new card, presence of parents, witnesses etc.) and moreover, what if there happens some cross check (if there is some centralized database). Also, courts doesn't issue marriage certificate. So this is my problem through which I am not able to get out. Please advice a foolproof method as we have thought a lot about it but in vain.

  • Answer:

I seriously dont even think they check that deep. I applied for a government passport in a rush with my maiden name (and was technically married) and then a couple months later I applied for a regular tourist passport (with my married name) and they never even realized it. I would just continue on and if they ask you have valid reason. I really dont think they look. They have too many passports to foul proof. If you have all required documents then you are good.
