What would have to do about this immigration issue?

What would you like to be done about the illegal immigration issue? What is your response to it?

• What would you like to done about the illegal immigration issue? I personally don't know what to think about the issue. On one hand, there are people who are screaming "kick out the illegals" and on the other, people who point out the human need element of this whole mess. What do you think, and WHY do you think it? Would it perhaps, be better and much more profitable in the long run if the U.S. were to help the Mexican government address the needs of it's people? The benefits surmount the short term expenditure; we will gain the support and admiration of the Mexican nation, we will enhance our image as a humanitarian nation, it will also decrease the amount of immigrants who will come here in the future (because if their own government is helping, then there won't be a reason to come here). I'm sure there are other gains as well. And as for the people pointing out that we shouldn't be responsible for the condition of another country, I would contend that it is the responsibility of ever human being to better society as a whole if they can. And I don't think (unless you can convince me other wise, which would be awesome) that throwing the argument 'it's ILLEGAL" is all one needs to prove. Laws are abstract. They are not always on par with modern morality. Consider laws that promoted Slavery (which was devastating), Promoted Anti Semitism (turning away Jews who were looking for refuge during hitler's reign is beyond cruel, it is inhumane), Denied Women rights, promoted segregation, claimed that only rich, old, white, Christan men could vote or have any say in the laws of the land show a few of the fallibility's of the law. The saying that it is illegal is not an argument but a refuge behuind authority (which may or may not be the most moral). Not to mention that the validity of the claim can change. Now if you give me facts about illegal immigrants causing damage to the economy, I will be very interested to read your opinion. But then again, i'm 17, the hell I know right? Please, all opinions/positions/thoughts are welcome =)

  I think that any illegal immigrant should earn the right to live in this country. Example: if they are going to come here illegally but want legal status then perhaps they should be required to perform military service (i.e. go to Iraq and Afghanistan) and fight for the country they desire to live in. Also, they should be required to spend their money here- not send it to their home country. Help the economy of the country they live in, not the one they are trying so desperately to leave.
