Some states are considering repealing "Megan's Law". What is your thought on this?

Megan's Law is an informal name for laws in the United States requiring law enforcement authorities to make information available to the public regarding registered sex offenders. Some states have began to consider "repealing" the "Megan's Law" (or its type) in favor of a more structured system that prevents the general public from accessing this information. Proponents of this movement, cite the vague nature of the laws, pointing out that in many states and cases the Law is applied to persons who are not by definition sexual predators. An example might be the fact that sodomy (homosexual intercourse) is illegal in Mississippi. A person convicted of that offense, would by law, need to be registered with Megan's Law. It would matter not if the intercourse were consensual, the result would be the "offender" need be registered. Furthermore, opponents of the law point to a number of attacks, arsons, and in more than one case, murders, that have taken place when citizens find out that a "predator" (as defined by the state) live in their neighborhood. Those behind the attempt at repealing the law state that they don't wish to leave the victims and communities without protection, but rather would like to see something that is very specific in how the offender is registered, monitored, and even protected from the general population. They argue that the general public should be limited in what information they can find out on their own without law enforcement or judicial help. Taking this into consideration, as well as the variety of the "Megan's Laws" what is your thought on the attempt to have the laws repealed and rewritten?

Answer:
Men have been forced to register as "sex offenders" because they stopped to urinate by the side of a road or highway and were seen, and reported, by passing motorists. He thought he could finish in time, but he was wrong, and now he must pay for it by being held up to public ridicule, harassment and persecution for the rest of his life. The government has a long, nasty record for passing laws for good reasons, and then using them for evil purposes. Remember the RICO laws? Well, here's another example. Government does not care about anything except maintaining its power and taking people's money.

from what you stated if what you say is true then i would have to say that i believe that the law needs to be repealed and rewritten to be more defined in what it means.

Based on your description and details, I absolutely support repealing the law and rewriting it to specify inclusion of sexual offenders and predators who committed crimes that could actually threaten the general population. I don't classify EVERYONE who has committed a sexually-related offense to be a sex offender. I keep that term for violent rapists and child abusers, both of whom I believe should be executed anyway and not even given a chance to live among the public. Consensual homosexual intercourse and many cases of statutory rape (those that are from close-in-age exemptions) do not fall under the category of potentially dangerous sexual predators.
