Is it illegal to record a conversation with someone, without their consent in school?
-
Basically, my friend, lets call her Jim, was getting bullied. She would be literally crying her eyes out because of her old 'friends'. So me and my other friend, lets call her Tom, went to talk to them girls to see why they were doing that to her. While we went, we secretly recorded the conversation we had on Jim's BB (with her permission, although she was wary about it and first said no, she eventually gave in.) Now we went to the bullies and we were just casually talking to them ar first, then Tom asked them if they were friends with Jim. They said no, and one of them (Ian) said 'Why should we?' and so I said 'Forgive and Forget' and then the other(Rob) said that she does want to forgive and forget. Tom asked what they're forgiving and forgetting about and Ian started getting kinda pissed off, telling us to stop nagging and that we wouldn't know and to ask Jim herself. We recorded that whole conversation, then went to show it to Jim and my other friend Gary. A girl called Ollie was also there, and once she told Jim's secrets to Rob and Ian so I whispered into Tom's ear saying that tell Jim not to play it, because Ollie will go and tell Rob and Ian. So Jim said to Ollie 'You're going to go tell Rob and Ian' and Ollie said she wouldn't. Tom said 'Yes you will!' and Ollie said 'Well, it's not exactly nice what you're doing to them' so Tom said 'It's not nice what they're doing to her, making her cry nearly everyday' and then Ollie stormed off. We followed her secretly, and she was telling Rob and Ian. We went back to Jim and Gary, told them. Gary said let's go see if they're telling Mr. Johnson (our form tutor). We went to his office, and he was coming out with Rob and Ian by his side. He's already pulled out Jim to ask her what happened, and he confiscated her phone as well as Gary's to go through it, because Gary sent Rob texts pretending to be someone called Alex. All Gary said in those texts was 'Hi' 'Guess Who' and I'm Alex ;P' so yeah. And they've deleted everything to do with REob and Ian, except for one text Gary sent Jim saying she should record their conversations. And Jim's already told my form tutor that we did record the convos. I have a feeling me and Tom are going to be next, and I said that I'll cover for Tom saying it was all me, since Tom is so close from getting excluded. So all I want to ask, is can I get in trouble? Because Ian printed out pictures on Facebook of Jim saying 'This is getting silly now' blah blah. Isn't recording a conversation the same thing? Will I get in trouble? And if you read all of that? Well done >3<!

Answer:
yes you can get in trouble for this. recording a conversation without someone's consent is considered an invasion of privacy and spying.
