How can a Canadian visiting the UK obtain an INR blood test?

Can a doctor refuse a patient requested blood test?? (UK)?

  • Basically a friend of mine has been ill for roughly 5months, nothing extreme.. she just seems like she has the flu constantly, along with that she is very pale and sleeps alot of the time. she struggles to gain weight though she has tried for years, a walk in doctor said this sounded very much like Anaemia, and advised that she ask her gp for a routines blood test. She has asked her doctor twice for a routines blood test and both times her doctor has refused, the doctor apparently said that because he is under the nhs suspected anaemia is not a good enough reason to have a blood test.. Im no doctor but this sounds like poo :( I have had routines blood test under the nhs? Why cant she????

    Yes! They run the NHS and are totally out of control! That's what we pay them for. That why it is called "the Medical PROFESSION". P.s: Seriously, It is allowed to get a second opinion. If you have no confidence, change doctor.

It is surprising they haven't given her a blood test already, being ill for 5 months with no diagnosis. Go back to the Dr and talk through what the symptoms are and for how long etc and the Dr will probably order a blood test of his own accord. Keep going back until you are happy with your health and treatment.

Problem is that the Doctor knows the full medical and psychological condition of your friend. You might only have her side of the story here as it is rare that a Doctor will refuse a blood test for anaemia. She can see another Doctor in the surgery or the Practice Nurse. Failing that she can change surgeries. She could also buy herself iron pills from the chemist and see if they make any difference. UK

The Doctor would know a lot more than your friend if he had thought blood tests necessary he would of sent them for one nobody can walk into the doctors surgery and demand a blood test.
