What is a stripped lower receiver on an ar 15?

AR-15 Stripped lowers...Assault weapons ban?

  • You hear all the talk about a ban on assault weapons but isn’t that what we had when Clinton was in office? I recall receivers being less than they are now. Is it really worth buying stripped lowers? Is it thought he will ban future production of them or what’s the deal? If you buy them now will you be able to always get the rest of the parts to build them at a reasonable price?

  • Answer:

You're right, they are talking about a reinstatement of the ban from the Clinton era. In the case of the AR, the lowers weren't an issue - it was little stupid things like magazine capacity, bayonet lugs, and foldable stocks. In each case of a "banned" version, the lower was the same in all cases. It was parts like various types of uppers, gas blocks, and flash hiders (no kidding!) that made one AR legal, and one illegal. A bunch of feel good nonsense that only served to make them look less "evil". You might want to get a few magazines though - and stay informed on new laws in cause the ban changes significantly.
