Can you tell me if it's illegal to watch a live stream of a PPV event like UFC?

I think only the people who host such events could be held liable civilly, I'm wondering if I as a watcher could also be held liable civilly with the big given being, nothing was downloaded, I was merely watching a steam.

  From a p2p source it may require you share information with others, at which point you would be distributing the content as well, and could be charged with distribution of copyrighted material. If you are purely downloading or streaming and not sending any of the content to anyone else, you could still be charged with a form of theft... however the copyright holder would never press charges on that as they could only charge you with the amount of business they lost (1 customer worth) and the legal fees would exceed any of their profits. You are right that the streamer is violating the law, you also are but would never be prosecuted.
