What data can I scrape out of online resources about plants without worrying about copyright infringement?

Is it copyright infringement to record and compare data from other websites?

  • Say I had a program that I made, and it's main purpose was to access (via the web) information on a website. For example, maybe the program checks... steampowered.com. It checks the users profile, and records information like hours played on specific games, achievements, ect. Could this be considered copyright infringement to access their website and use this data? Would it be if I included the names of games or other specific things owned by others?

  • Answer:

Generally speaking, while the specific arrangement of facts may be protected by copyright, the facts themselves are not protected by copyright. http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html
