How many Mosques are there in the UK?

Should we allow mosques to be built in uk - whlst muslim countrys discourage/outlaw church/synagogue building?

  • why should we give a place among us to those who dont see themselves and act as though they are one faith among many?

  • Answer:

I think the difference between us and many Muslim countries is that we see ourselves as a democracy believing others are free to have their own faiths and beliefs. Sure, some Muslims don't wish to integrate etc. but others do and they shouldn't be punished or tarred with the same brush. If mosques were banned from being built over here, wouldn't that push some factions of the Muslim community deeper underground? And wouldn't that also isolate many Muslims who do feel and wish to be part of modern-day Britain?

I don't think money should go into building mosques etc..when there are so many homeless people, more hospitals and doctors surgeries needed....spend it on the Brits...it IS OUR country after all!!

i think that people coming to live in the UK should appreciate that this is a christian country and has been for many many years. if they do not like our culture, they really should go someplace else. that said, i have no problems whatsoever with immigrants coming into the country, provided they can support themselves and their families, and have something to give to britain. i have no problems with people worshipping their own god in their own way, it just upsets me when we are not allowed to mention christmas in case it causes offence.

This is a difficult question im muslim, but im also mixed race so i sit on the fence most of the time...the thing is...if tehre was a church in a muslim country..who would use it? the majority of the conutry is muslim like you said..where as you can really say england has on faith..its split up into christian, catholic,athestist..and all the otehr faiths..so england is considerd by all to be a multi cultraul society...the only reason why somone would want to build a chritsian church in a muslim country is so they can convert the people there to that religion...just my opiniun

Many other faiths act as they are the only true faith as well. And if they're allowed to build their places of worship, it only shows that you're a more open minded society than they are.

Two wrongs don't make something right, One of the great things about our country is the tolerance of other races and religions and the rights they have something which in my view raises us above countries where these rights are denied, as long as the mosque is funded by the Muslim community I see no problem with it, they have every right to follow their beliefs, I personally follow no religion so could argue the same point about any church, as for me they have no purpose, but others do have a need for them and this I respect.

I don't think that would stop growing popularity of Islam.

Of course we should. We live in a country that prides itself on freedom of expression and tolerance and acceptance. It might not seem fair that (some) Muslin countries do not tolerate 'other' churches but lifes not fair and that is their perogative, I'm afraid. Live and let live
