Is the pirate bay illegal?

Have the pirate bay done anything illegal by hosting torrents?

  • Have the pirate bay done anything illegal according to Swedish law or are the authorities simply changing the rules to suit themselves. Please no slandering of pirate bay or symapthising with Swedish government, for example the US threatening with trade sanctions.

  • Answer:

From what I have read, the whole case is about as solid as quicksand. There are allegations of judicial bias being purchased, attempts to alter law to fit the tastes of involved parties, bribery and other corruption. My opinion is that 'The pirate bay' where probably not breaking the law, but may have been inciting others to do so. But I ain't no lawyer. I wholeheartedly agree that torrent sharing is not actually steeling copyright. However for any organisation to advocate copyright breech as 'The Pirate Bay' (allegedly) did, then they are asking for trouble. I also know that people say 'Well, everybody copies stuff.' Or they say 'So, what about taping from vinyl.' The thing is, both phrases are feeble excuses in law (as I am led to believe.) Personally, I'd love to get all my entertainment media for free. It is not going to happen though. Whats next all your weekly bread free, because the baker makes too much profit?

Nope they haven't "Big Brother in the form of an increasingly powerful government and in an increasingly powerful private sector will pile the records high with reasons why privacy should give way to national security, to law and order [...] and the like." - Justice William O. Douglas

Yes they have they are selling links to to sell copyright music there fore they are profiting by illegal activity, how would you feel if you were a recording artist and knowing that 50% per cent of your music was not being paid for. Ask any one who downloads illegally would they like it if we took their property without payment I do not think so

Yes, they violated Swedish law, IPRED. Even if Sweden passed a law that outlawed what TPB did, if TPB continued to do the act (which they did) and they knowingly violated the law (as they very vocally did), then they violated the law.

No I think there is nothing wrong with PirateBay and all efforts and being made to stop stupid laws like this from ruining the community that is PirateBay.
