  • Answer:

Well, there is no legal requirement to give notice. Usually it's done because it's normally bad form not to give notice, but if your new employer understands, and needs you to start right away, and the new job is better, then you should go ahead and not give notice. You can be apologetic about it. Dana (attorney)

If you've already got a new job lined up, then it's probably not too big a deal. Usually you give notice so you can end on good terms with your old boss and you'll have a good reference.

you don't have to, but it will be nice courtesy. Simple explanation (e.g. last sentence) would be nice. That way you don't burn bridges needlessly...you never know if you may have to re-cross them in the future. Congratulations!

yes, it always a good thing. One day you may come back

You never have to give notice. Its just recommended that you do so, especially if you want to use that company as a reference in the future.

That is totally up to you. It is customary to give a 2 week notice when leaving a job. But there is no law that says you have to. most do because they don't want to burn the bridge. If you give someone a notice if things don't work out they will be more apt to rehire you. When you just say i quit and leave chances are they will never consider you for a position again.

You don't need to give any notice at all if you havn't signed anything but that also means they don't have to give you any sort of a reference!

no you have no committment there. make sure you get a contract with your new employer showing starting date before you leave though. ie contract starts monday, you can then finish on Friday (give as much notice as you can). you also won't get a bad reference, that's no allowed... the bare minimum is to confirm you worked there. No one is allowed to criticise in a reference. Good luck.

It is always nice and shows them respect when you do....if you have time to go ahead and give them the heads up...wouldnt you want your employee to do that to you?
