How do you stop people from harassing you?

How can I stop this man from harassing people in my neighborhood ?

  • For years, there has been this man in my neighborhood, I think he might be homeless, who hangs around a few of the local grocery stores and harasses people into giving him money. He is very persistent and if you say no he nags and harasses you until you give in and give him what he wants. He never gets violent or makes any physical threats though but this one time I saw him stick his head inside the window of some man's car until he got what he wanted. I also noticed that he often hangs out with a group of teenagers, usually getting drunk and possibly high with them which I find kind of disturbing since this guy looks like he's in his mid-30s. People in the neighborhood have tried complaining to the owner of the store about this man but he's still there bothering anybody who goes there. What else could I do? Can I call the police ? I don't know if he's breaking any laws.

    I wouldn't get too involved in this situation, if he didn't directly disturb you or any of your family members, I suggest you don't get yourself into something you'd regret in the future. At best, I would contact the local police non-emergency number and explain the situation to them, if he is breaking any laws, they will deal with it, but do not get involved in any way. It might create problems for yourself or worse you could be in danger.

Buy a gun. With the ridiculous judicial rulings on second amendment laws, rather than being charged for murder, you'll be called a hero... even if you shoot him in the back as he runs away. No more harassing people into giving him change and the neighborhood will consider you a true American patriot. J.K. No but seriously, all it takes is for one person to make a stand. Be stern and tell him to piss off.... be respectful and polite but be stern and let him get a feel for the irritation in your voice. Tell him you're sick of his bullying, harassing, intimidating, and or annoying people into getting money. He's behaving like an immature child and if he continues to annoy patrons (who HAVE a job and have MADE SOMETHING of their lives) you won't hesitate to call the authorities as he is obviously contributing to the delinquency of minors, and loitering, which ARE breaking the law. btw... DrRocco is right. Richard Crenna can't save you now so be careful!

Of course he's breaking the law. Try to charge him with harrasment. Or get him banned from the store.

yes, you should call the police because if you suspect he is getting drunk with teenagers most likely he is the one buying the beer/liquor for them and that IS breaking the law

Most Municipalities have a vagrancy or begging ordinance. A complaint to the Cops about his behavior should get him arrested, or 'moved on'.

Yes he is breaking the law and you need to report him as soon as possible we had more than one we had an entire group doing this and they were living in some bushes on the roadside and drinking with the money they collected on the road side and the police said that if they didn't have at least a home or so much money then it is considered vagrancy and that it is illegal and nor can they harass or hang around like he is that is the same thing whether he has a home or not he can't do this and i am betting he knows this and has been reported before and changed locations to do this. My son in law was a local policeman now he is a dea and i also have other family members in law enforcement and they all say no it can't do that.

begging is NOT illegal being Homeless is not illegal. Bothing someone is not illegal How about finding a home and a program for him. Find ways to help the poor guy...not chase him off. geeeeeeez talk about a cold heart
