What is the best way to deal with back tax debt?

Expanding the tax base is essential if the US is to pay off its debt. Is legalising marijuana one way to do it?

  • In many states, including Tennessee, marijuana is the largest cash crop. Taxing it would open up whole new streams of revenue. It would also liberate law enforcement agencies and the penal system from keeping up with the massive expense of policing the current laws...estimated to be several billion dollars a year. Studies have shown that long term marijuana use is less harmful to individual health than either tobacco or alcohol and has far fewer adverse effects on public safety and social order than booze. More money saved then from the health and welfare budgets if people can be convinced to change from their current drugs of choice (booze and cigs) to the safer option (marijuana). So why is there so much resistance to the concept?

  • Answer:

No, what we need is for tax levels to return to those under Republican President Eisenhower. When the Wealthy actually paid tax's!

Knock it off woman!! I refuse to pay taxes on my pot crop (it's looking good too). It would really feck with my profits. Let'm tax the 5% of the rich feckers instead of the 95% of us poor feckers. RScott

I used think this was a good idea but now I can't remember what the question was. I just ate my vinyl edition of "Motivation Radio" and it didn't taste as good as I initially thought it might, Perhaps its an acquired taste and I need to eat "Green" too.

Mandatory medical marijuana use for haters sure would make things easier for all of us.

Yes, and I would like to volunteer for the trial run of this new program. But seriously, yes it is a good idea. Collect tax revenue and let out non-violent drug offenders from expensive prisons. Talk about a win-win. Couple that with an increase in taxes on the most wealthy back up to what it was in the Reagan administration (as Warren Buffet suggested), and we've got a recipe for eliminating the deficit.

There isn't enough force backing this option. That's why. There will always be an opposition to any opinion, law, or idea. If weed smokers want it legal, they need to get up and tell their government where they can put the law that says it's illegal. Oppression is a sad but true story.

Why do you hate America? You Hippy! @ Penfold, you need to clean the blobs of chutney from "Fish Rising" and give that a go. You Hippy.

That idea has been floated by several state politicians. Medical marijuana is readily available and there many doctors that will give you a prescription for it for just about any reason. So, in a sense, it is already taxed and marketed. If large growing industries were able to market the stuff, competition being what it is, there would be some awesome killer sh!t available. While I would view this as righteously bodacious, the overwhelming majority of nuts and bolts dweebs are still shell-shocked after viewing Reefer Madness, one of the funniest movies ever made. The mind boggles.
