What was the gas in bhopal tragedy?

What are your views about Bhopal Gas leak tragedy case followed by Govt..?

  • The affected people had to be treated medically, families protected from economic ruin due to death or incapacitation of bread winner, the toxic products still fuming in the campus removed totally, the culprits in the organisation and in the supervisory role in the govt had to be sued, etc The recent statement of the Ministry of External Affairs that the request for extradition of the owner of the Union Carbide India, from US was made in 2003 nearly two decades after the fatal leak..!! There were already rumours doing rounds how the gent was ''helped'' to leave India soon after the historic calamity!! The statement comes on the eve of widespread protests about the scanty sentence for the perpetrators of the criminal negligence in India, leaving out the role of the real owners altogether. Isn't it strange that the Govt could not have the person booked for his grave lapse all these years and saying now that they could not move US, a friendly country and a champion of human rights (?) to comply with the Indian request all these years? Were the govts sincere at all to do justice to the people whom they put to grievous hurt, in accordance with law? The fact that the govt agreed for a paltry compensation, delayed the investigation and service of the charge sheets for decades, diluted the sections under which the accused were charged, etc amply proves that the Centre was least sincere to render justice to the citizens in the historic industrial tragedy of our times. How do you look at this? Do you go with me, or like to suggest that the govts were not lax or unconcerned about justice etc? If so, on what scores you think so? Please share your views with appropriate details for your opinon please.

My answer is http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqdKpcPGmlDi3kSFPPVgQqORHQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20100607042627AAhqJbn PLUS SIR, I DON'T AGREE WITH U U have only said that the govt was lax. But I go on to say that Govt of India is the biggest culprit. Govt of India was directly involved in preventing Anderson. If killing people is an offence then helping such man is also an offence. The Govt compromised Indian interests to suit the America. All the PMs who were holding chair in 1989, 1996 and 2002 should be booked. The reasons I have already explained in the link provided. Let me present some facts to prove my case 1) Sir, we could have easily proved that the security in the Indian plant was compromised, what we needed was an inspection in American plant of UCC. On 6 July 1988, CGM Bhopal had issued a letter regulation directing letter request to USA to permit CBI to carry inspection of UCL's West Virginia Plant. In November 1988, CBI did go to USA led by then DIG Mr. Madhavan. Due to some paperwork it took some time for granting them inspection permission. On 14 Feb 1989, US informed Indian Embassy in Washington that permission has been granted to CBI for inspection and on the very same day Govt of India and UCC agreed on out of court settlement. Thus as expected, America canceled the permission granted to CBI because there was an out of court settlement. That was complete sellout by Indian Govt. As the Indian Govt & UCC came to know that permission has been granted, without loosing any time they singed the deal because they didn't want truth to come out. Why was the national interest compromised just to save Anderson ?? I allege that Govt of India was bribed for this. Otherwise whats the reason of signing the pact on that day when permission was granted ?? Why did the Govt agree on an amount which was 1/7th of the amount demanded and removing civil and criminal charges against the company ?? 2) Why did Anderson was flown out of country ?? The director of Aviation at Bhopal and the pilot who had flown him from Bhopal to Delhi both had received instructions from CM's Office. The CM was directly involved in this. I doubt this can't happen without prior knowledge to PM because the govt at Centre as well as state both were of Congress. 3) The Govt of India deliberatly diluted charges against the Officials of UCIL in 1996 4) In 2002, the Govt of India went to the extent of going to Supreme Court for watering down the charges against Anderson, the man who was responsible for killing 25000 people. As far as extradition of Anderson is concerned, since the Govt was hand in glove with the culprits thats why they demanded his extradition only after 19 years. And America categoricaly said 'NO' because there was no such extradition treaty between America and India. I would like to ask Mr Bush, Was there any such extradition treaty between USA & Taliban in 2001. If no then why did they demand Osama bin Laden to handed to them. A man who was responsible for the death of 2000 people they can extradite him but any other country can't extradite a man of their country who is responsible for death of 25000 people. This is the double standard of America.

The government is biased.. very sadly, they favor only their vote banks. Prompt investigation might have brought lot of pot holes in the working of their own department, and they have shamelessly tried to cover it up. Fed up with weak leadership.... Its time we get young and dynamic leaders, and no, I'm not talking about fecking Rahul Gandhi please

Bow to the mighty Agnostic

One life of Indira Gandhi, cast many lives. One life of Rajiv Gandhi too cast many lives. So, thousands of victims have no right to say anything because the country is ruled by Congress Party for most of the period. So, soon people will forget everything like they forgot Bofors, Nagarwala case,Spectram, and so many particularly price raise.Useless ruling party as well as useless opposition party. Had it happened in any other country the sympathy would have been different. Our Indian Government will rush to help them to earn name and fame for the show off.So, you are raising questions in yahoo will not help any.I am sorry to say this.Only few come to know the truth in India.Judiciary system is also poor in India.(Recent case of elite people like Sridhar. I will forget soon and i request you too.

For 26 years no one bothered to ask such questions. the Government, the Judiciary, the Media and the NGOs were in deep slumber. Now every one knows the names of high and mighty who allowed the CEO of Union Carbide to fly off to safety. Will they be punished. No. They can't be touched. This can happen only in a Country ruled by one family for 60 years. I am afraid when I read the papers I feel that not even can God can redeem this Punya Bhoomi. Jai Ho. I fully endorse the views of ARYAN.

i fully agree with Aryan sir, Brahmany sir, cpsingvi sir. Lets keep past things aside just for a couple of days, What will the central and state govt do? will they catch hold of Devenand douglas ( srilankan minister who is now in traveling in India along with his president ) when he is now in India - a wanted accused in three cases, or will leave him to fly back and make us to debate like this???? The attitude of Politician should change or else Kaliyug will dance furiously! Edit : sir, Who was the sanctioning authourity, which allowed to set up UCI in that place?, didn't they know if an accident happens there will huge damage? They should have known if some thing wrong happened to what extent ( in area wise ) it would cause damage, and would have approved to set up UCI in a relatively isolated area. Have these sanction authority people been charged? i guess no. ...

The inept and lackadaisical handling of the entire matter leaves not only a lot to be desired but raises a whole slew of questions that need to be investigated by the government with all the seriousness that the issue deserves and demands. Not that anything worthwhile is likely to emerge after the lapse of so many years. Both the governments at the center and state level need to establish who was responsible for aiding Anderson to escape from the long arm of the law, besides pursuing the extradition proceedings vigorously with the American authorities. The government needs to adopt a very tough stand with the US Government and make it very clear that India would not appreciate any protection being afforded to Anderson and that India expects the US authorities to not only facilitate extradition but confiscating all his assets in the US and turning them over to India for providing relief to the victims of the tragedy and their relations. The government also needs to reexamine whether the relief afforded to the victims in fact has reached everyone of them without any part of it being unaccounted. Have a Good Day.
