What is a county precinct?

  • live in san antonio, tx and there are local county presincts i could vote in---one is specifically for me. what is the definition and purpose of a county precinct in this instance? is it's only purpose to define a place for my neighborhood to vote in? is there any other purpose for a county precinct other than providing a voting booth? Thanks!

  • Answer:

A precint is usually the smallest civic division in a county..Boundaries are established, and if you live within the boundary..that is where you may cast your ballot for elections held in the county.. You must be "registered" & may only vote in one precinct. When precincts were originally established, transportation was probably by horse & or buggy. Nowdays, precincts may share a voting location, such as a school or other public location.
