What is Communism?

What is communism, and why it is such a threat?

  • All I know is that communism is bad, and it is better to eliminate communism as much as possible. Communism means everything is controlled by the government, right? so why would a communist wanted to be a communist? did they actually like being controlled by the government or what? did I actually get the meaning of communism wrong? Also, if some countries actually became communist, what would be the effect given to US? I mean, North Korea is still under communism, and it's not like it is trying to bomb US or anything. pardon my bad english.. and thanks for answering

  • Answer:

First thing to keep in mind: True Communism has never existed because it is an ideal where all people contribute according to their abilities but benefit equally . What we have seen in history are very extreme, oppressive and corrupt exhibits of socialism, where the divide between 'haves' and 'have-nots' is lesser compared to the average society but where leaders have enjoyed an elevated lifestyle to the determent of workers. What history has shown is that communism cannot work because there will always be people who will not contribute but seek to benefit maximally from little to no effort, and also people will perform for incentives- They might not be monetary incentives, but rather the incentives of power, prestige, and the ability to self-realize their own goals. Ultimately countries such as the former Soviet Union and Red China have shifted or are shifting to a more capitalist paradigm. So- Communism as a practice does not exist. However, there are many socialist countries that do exist and some would say thrive. For example, Holland heavily taxes its citizens but offers public health care, education and a host of other social programs. These are more complicated issues and not everyone agrees with socialized public benefits. I would encourage you to explore multiple opinions on the subject and draw your own conclusions. North Korea is more totalitarian despotism than communist government. As far as we know right now, they are not a direct credible threat to the US.

Communism isn't bad. The U.S. government just doesn't like anything that threatens capitalism so they brainwash everyone into thinking its bad. Communists like communism because it does a much better job of creating social equality and reducing poverty than capitalism. Also, the U.S. government is intolerant and doesn't like anything that's different from themselves.

Communism is bad for capitalism, i.e. a handful of corporations who actually run the government and are trying to run the rest of the world and us along with it. Your mind has been poisoned against communism, thank you Corporate America.

A doctor gets paid the same as a waiter, so you get crappy doctors. Nuff said no reason to work hard no reason too be good.

Check out Karl Marx. Communism is about everyone contributing for the good of society. Everyone works. The government is in charge so it is intended to be more objective. But often it has been very corrupt. But so are corporations when they run the government which has happened to a large degree in the United States but nobody seems to want to really talk about it. The more people know and understand then the worse it is for those corporations. The person that said that there would be no more doctors is wrong. Some people become doctors because they love science and helping people. It's challenging and rewarding work. It's why people become nurses. I've been a server and it's hard work. I didn't really find it particularly rewarding. I've been volunteering with a local shelter and that has been very rewarding. I took in a stray kitten that is very thin. It feels wonderful to help others in need. I have been a hospice volunteer. I wanted to be a pharmacist but there aren't enough spaces which has caused pharmacy school to become ridiculously competitive. The same is true of nursing and medical school. Silly me but I feel that if a person is fully qualified to enter into that type of rigourous school then they should be accepted. There is too much competition and it is bad for all of us. It's gone to unhealthy competition where there is a lot of corruption. Corruption is the enemy. Communism at heart is not. Some people are evil and the enemy of all of us. Our system doesn't make sure that all doctors are good. Please. It's not true. Some doctors are just all about the money. There are plenty of them. That's what capitalism does. There is another side to providing good medical care. Our system is not the best one. We can do better. Check out Karl Marx because he explains what communism is better and how through the progression of time and experience it is a natural progression. It makes sense. Of course corporations fear it because then they lose out. If you were in that situation, what would you do? edit: For communism to have a chance then values like doing your best no matter what need to be promoted. You have to get rid of the lies that hurt all of us. There are some people (quite a lot actually) that believe in excellence and are satisfied at doing good work. I don't believe that people need to paid the same across the board. People should be rewarded for their efforts and going above and beyond but it should be more evenly spread out. We live in all or nothing times. That's not healthy. It's not sustainable. The nothings will die out. We will be worse off in the long run.

Communism takes away freedom. Many of the worst regimes in human history were Communist. Not all but many. One big thing you lose in a Communist country is freedom of religion. I value that. It is nice to be able to wear a crucifix and to go to church on Sundays. If i did either in a Communist nation I could easily lose my freedom. Human rights in a communist nation are pretty much meaningless. Look at China. They execute people for almost any criminal offense. That is just wrong. I fear one day they will dominate the world. Not in my life time but far in the future. It is sad the way it will go down. But we are part of the problem. Every time we purchase a made in China product we are feeding the monster called China.

Communism's particular sticking points are where no one gets paid any differently from anyone else, no matter the importance of their job, or their proficiency at that job; therefore no one has incentive to do a good job, as opposed to a mediocre one, so everything suffers, from public health to infrastructure. Those who liked it felt that no one should have any more than anyone else, even if they earned it through superior effort, skill, and knowledge. This is going on to a lesser extent now in the guise of ultraliberal politics.

Communism is considered a form of gouverment. in reality, comunisam is a philosophy. it is based on this utophian idea of the society where people have reached such state of mind that any kind of posession is unimportaint to them. everything belongs to everyone. i will use this latop as long as i need it, but later i will have no problem giving it to you. everyone will have the same oportunitys and be able to work(8 hours), sleep(8 hours) and have fun(8 hours). people tried to transform this philosophy into action by taking away all the private property and making it a public property. of course; those people came to power, and not everyone agreed with them; while there are people in power, we can hardly say we're all equal. this being the case, the utopian idea was often transformed into fascist form of government (Russia, China), but there were some countries that functioned relatively well as communist states but only for a short period of time because there was no competition in the market what made the industry fall apart. as about US, these countries have enough problems themselves without getting involved with Americans.
