I am a Canadian, but would be embarrassed if I knew you got your full education in Canada. If you did, then we certainly don't have anything to be proud of, unless you are just in grade 3. Your English is terrible! We dint have French provinces. Quebec is officially French speaking, you moron! We have universal health care in Canada, not like in the US. We are not better, not worse than the Americans. We have a different country. I am different from you. Pamela Anderson is different from Julia Roberts. Nobody is better or worse. If you want to be a proud Canadian, study our culture and pay attention in school and maybe your fellow Canadians wont be embarrassed for you! Brock Vancouver, canada

The government controls the health care. My doctor moved to the United States because he did not want the government dictating to him on how to BE a medical doctor.

sure, if you want to wait a year for a heart surgery you can get in a day in America with some insurance.

Canada is different than the US; whether it is better is in the eye of the beholder. The standards of health care in the US and Canada are equivalent. In Canada, the provincial governments act as a single-payer for health care insurance. Doctors are either privately employed or work for hospitals or health care authorities. This is very similar to the US except in the US doctors bill myriad private insurers. In Canada it is a public policy decision what insurance covers. In the US private insurance companies decide what medical services are covered. You can make up your own mind what system is better, but bear in mind that American insurance companies exist to make huge profits, not to ensure that health-care services are delivered. There ARE waiting lists for non-essential medical services in Canada. However, never EVER would you wait a year for heart surgery, as someone suggests. Waiting lists aren't good, but are being addressed in Canada. In the US millions go uninsured and cannot dream of certain medical services (knee replacement, for example) that some Canadians complain bitterly about having to wait for, for a few months (and then receive for free!) The Canadian and US educations systems again are similar, however the Canadian university system is more analogous to the better state public schools in the US (University of California, University of Michigan, University of Washington, etc.) and have a more uniform high standard of education across the country. Canadians are more concerned with the collective good of society than Americans who focus more on individual fulfillment. An example of this is Americans belonging to the religious right in who think it is acceptable to impose their personal views, based on extreme religious faith, on people they don't even know, by opposing their access to basic human rights such as women's rights and gay rights. Canadians for the most part would not consider it for the good of society to oppose basic human rights, even if they feel discomfort with unfamiliar ideas such as gay marriage. Although Canada's federal government is officially bilingual, it is inaccurate to describe the country as English/French bilingual. Most of Canada is predominantly English-speaking and Quebec is predominantly French speaking. New Brunswick is the only officially bilingual province.

they have problems too. don't kid your self.

I don't see why calling your administrative regions "States" or "Provinces" makes one better than the other. The U.S.A. are very misguided now, though, and Canada seems to be better at maintaining the ideals we tout.

i just finished watching a news report(ctv news net) the wealthy in Canada are getting richer and the poor are going to war. there are a lot of families trying to live off 15,000 to 30,000 a year, take off our huge taxes and ever increasing fees $50 to renew a licence, $80 car registration and so on. the good news is that a person can just pick up and move to northern Alberta and get a job making 60,000. yes we have universal health care, but the care u get on the east coast pales in comparison to what u get in the west. yes we are bilingual, but so is the us. Canada is not better just different
