What is a typical home in Israel like?

If I "convert" to Judaism, does that mean I am "related" to the Jews of old and can claim Israel as "my home"?

  • If I "convert" to Judaism, does that mean I am "related" to the Jews of old and can claim Israel as "my homeland"? No? Yes? If not,..then what if it were my Parents who "converted"? Yes? No? What about if it were my Grandparents, or great Grandparents even? How far back in history would the "conversion" to Judaism need to be, for Me to legitimately "claim" Israel was mine?

  • Answer:

Will, again has an interesting answer here, however,...when he say's "What your ancestors did is irrelevant",..poses a problem for many who have debated this matter of Israel and "who" this land "belongs" to. Traditional thought, and for the most part "accepted" thought on this subject says "God" gave this land to the People who escaped Egypt with Moses, and thus their "descendants" also. The problem is, according to some researchers, including the well-known Jewish author, Arthur Koestler...the vast majority of the Worlds Jews are descended from People who "converted" to Judaism from Catholicism or some other belief system, and are NOT in any way related to the people of Biblical times and are NOT semitic either. Hence, many People say the Jews of today have absolutely NO RIGHT whatsoever in claiming Palestine as thier homeland,....understandably so, I am sure anyone can see the reasoning behind this view point. http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/13trindx.htm (if there are People who doubt this reasoning, it is like this. Recent census counts imply that there may be up to 20 million Muslims in China. Does this mean 'they' have some connection to the land of Saudi Arabia, where Islam has it's origins?,....of course they do not) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_China#Number_of_Muslims_in_China So,...although Israel can as Will points out be "claimed" by yourself as your "homeland" under certain circumstances, is it right? You be your own judge. I know what my "opinion" is.

If I "convert" to Judaism, does that mean I am "related" to the Jews of old and can claim Israel as "my homeland"? ANSWER: It all depends. No, you're not related; but you might be able to claim Israeli citizenship IF you were converted in the Orthodox faith. Israeli law stipulates that only Orthodox converts are eligible. f not,..then what if it were my Parents who "converted"? ANSWER: IF your parents (particularly your mother) were converted as an Orthodox Jew, AND you were born after her conversion, then yes. If not, then no. Answer to other questions -- Your right to claim can only be through your mother (not your father). At the time of your birth, your mother had to be Jewish. What your ancestors did is irrelevant.
