Can i still get medicaid if i am getting an inheritence?

• ok i have a couple questions i am kinda screwed i think cause i don't know what to do. i have not been working cause of an undiagnosed medical condition and i have been very broke and finally got accepted for medicaid which i am so happy about but.. i am getting an inheritence of 13,000 dollars and i know i have to report it to medicaid but my question is how would they find out i have it if i dont have a bank account and i just cash it? number 2 what if i report it to them and then i will lose my medicaid can i spend it and then receive medicaid after i spend the money? can i gift it to someone? i really need medicaid 13 grand isn't that much when it comes to the cost of insurance someone help me out here cause im confused with all this thanks

If you dont report it within 10 days, and they find out in a few months or next year by a search for unreported income and hidden assets which they do randomly, your penalties will be severe. They will include repayment of everything they gave you, forbidden from any future government benefits, a fine of up to $10,000 or a prison term up to 5 years if prosecuted. This is a federal crime and it is considered fraud. If you report it, they might drop you from Medicaid until you have used up the money down to $2000 and tell you to re-apply after you have done that. Your asset limit for Medicaid is $2000 for one, $3000 for two. Medicaid is for people with NO assets.
