Why do people think government an provide health care better than the market?

There are people such as me who have been covered by socialized medicine as well as HMO's such as Keiser, Etna, NHP, S&W etc so we know the difference. In Norway, Canada and Denmark I received medical care which would rate between 93 and 97 on a scale of one hundred. The above mentioned HMO's would rate from 6 to 23. The care in the US is up to ten times as costly for a lesser service and if you tell me that the US Government is incapable of providing health care the quality of which I received elsewhere you may be correct but they could at least do five times better than the insurance companies that provide "care" now!

The current private health care system in America is quite literally the worst value for money system in the world. All I see are my insurance premiums being paid to rich executives in Wall St. Does John H. Cochran of Kaiser really need two private jets? Is he worth $22 million a year? If I had that sort of salary I'd buy my own ****in hospital. I say let the Government have a go. They'll do a crap job at it, but it can't be worse than what we already have can it?

"regular American" you are paying for someone else health wheather you like it or not when they go to the emergency room without insurance. Some insurance companies are rip offs and should be held accountable for their greed.

The health care we've had for the last 50 to 60 years IS government health "care". The AMA (American Masochistic Association) and the FDA (Friggin' Deadly Administration) have lobbied with millions, then billions and, soon probably, trillions per year to permit pharmaceutical giants unchecked profits for drugs sold here in the U.S. while selling the same to 'nanny-states' for a fraction the cost... to permit fewer and fewer doctors to graduate each year, to prevent foreign medicines entering the U.S., to demand a bachelor degree as prerequisite to entering medical school (no nation with 'state-run' medical requires anything so absurd) and on and on. ...

Health insurance companies need to make a profit to stay in business. They have a very powerful lobby is why they are not going away any time soon. The reason health care costs are so high is because they have been deregulated. They can charge anything they want so your facts are faulted. most of the middle class people who file bankruptcy last year was over medical bills and most of them had health insurance. The big companies that sell us health insurance have it all figured out. When you get sick and can't work they drop you and your health insurance is now no good. What CEO's at the top of health insurance companies it was said make obscene wages. Which if used by itself would fund health care for every individual in the country. People are glad to pay huge sums to health insurance companies who are a business who has to make money to stay in business. They have lots of employees making wages. Yet half this much money you are paying now could fund a health care system where everyone actually got what they were paying for. It could be non profit. We pay more for health care and get worse health care than Canada and they keep saying they do not get descent health care and it is a lie, they do. So the politicians are lying to the public and just because it sounds like socialism, which has been made to sound very scary, it actually works better than what we are doing now. It actually costs less than what your paying health insurance companies to keep these CEO"s at the top rich, while you are one illness away from bankruptcy.

So you think these rich wall street executives can run a health care system that is fair to everyone? You are paying huge sums of money for health insurance companies. that is okay! But when it comes to paying taxes and actually getting what you pay for that is wrong. Let, me tell you your problem. You have been told by your religion that the Republicans walk on water. What they say is the truth. When nothing could be farther from the truth. Health insurance companies are in business to make money, that is it to make money! They do not care if you get a heart transplant? They pay doctors to say you are well when you are not. We know this. They pay these people to tell the American people that health insurance companies deserve huge wages to keep up their fleets of jets. That they are your friend and socialize medicine is the bad guys. So you pay out most of your wages and then end up without the health care you need. Then they say well it is because people are fat, use tobacco, drink or take drugs. You have got to be kidding me we cannot afford to take drugs in this country. The government and health insurance companies make money off the sale of the medicine you buy. For a 12 cent pill they can make hundreds of dollars. They are not regulated and can give a surgery to a lady to send his wife to hawaii. Then someone who actually needs the surgery doesn't get it because she doesn't have the right kind of health insurance. You know the Insurance company that pays the major bucks to the CEO's to fund their private jets and 4 mansions in the hamptons.

Republicans are for big business and health insurance companies are big business. You are paying the money out now! Only you are not getting what you are paying for. Insurance companies keep people from getting the care they need not doctors. They do not want to pay out so they pay less to doctors to say you do not need something that may save your life. They have convinced the American people that health insurance companies are there to help you. We know they are not. They are there to make money just like any other business. By the way they are a bunch of crooks.

Health insurance companies are a big rip off you pay the major bucks but you do not get the coverage. Why would you think big businesses would care more about you???

It's the same reason people have religions - irrational, nonscientific thinking passed on from generation to generation and enforced with violent threats and ignorance.
