If we are a democracy, then why are our businesses dictatorships? Of course it's obvious that we have the freedom to have our own business but it seems that they all end up the same. One head-honcho at the top and all the peons down the tree beneath him. Our government has it's issues but it definitely is better than the other governments. It would seem like businesses would learn from that and try to "follow suit" giving each employee votes on all matters, including money. And give employees more freedoms. What do you think?

Answer:
I agree wholeheartedly. A business should be run by the people working for it, with a person at the top merely as a way of making sure there is fair and equal pay/distribution amongst the workers, and to make sure no abuse of said distribution takes place. That is true democracy at work!

There are some businesses like that just not very many. I understand what your saying. I have often wondered why executives in board room make decisions regarding the operations of a company in which they have no direct interaction with the people who do the work and often no interaction with their customer base either. Then when they make a bad decision they pull the rip cord on the golden parachute meanwhile its layoff time for everyone else. its not always bad like this but too many of these scenarios. Its definitely backwards. We arent really a democracy though.

We're not a true democracy. You don't have to work for anyone if you don't want to and can learn to earn by being productive and independent.

We are not a Democracy, we are a Republic.

If we were a dictatorship then it wouldn’t matter what power structure the companies were, because we would end up giving all of our income to the government anyway… HMMM it looks like we are headed in the very same direction. OH NO>

Thats the million dollar question. Its a tripple edge sword. Democracy -vs- Fair market, but in order to force corperate industry to be fair, it takes Government intervention. I would love to hear the answer to this one. The third edge of the sword is from the employers point of view, which is, hey this is my operation and you work for me, so its my way or the highway and the government shouldnt be regulating me...

Democracy is a political system, not a commercial structure. Many corporations have democratic principles though, because they are overseen by a board of directors who directly represent the shareholders of the company. So if you are a shareholder, then you have a "democratic" voice in the company though the board of directors. Some companies give their employees shares and those employees can pool together to select a few individuals for the board.
