Free holidays for single mums on benefits?

  • I have nothing against help for people who genuinely need it but my neighbour who is a single mum (and doesn't want to work because she says she couldn't live without her benefits) has told me she is going on holiday with her son next week to Butlins (around £500 during summer hols) and it's all being paid for by the taxpayer. Does this make anyone else's blood boil? My family and I can't afford to go on holiday especially not during the summer holidays and haven't had one for years. What is wrong with this government? She gets the usual paid for (rent, c.t., school meals, dental treatment, free day trips, free school clothes) and now this. I think it's totally wrong and disgusting. How can the government crack down on these lazy lowlifes? Why do married people get penalised? They should be encouraging family life not the other way round. It's all wrong.

    Oh my god im completely in shock! I am a single mum but i have always worked and now im studying. I would hate to be on benefits and have always worked hard to give my kids what they need. Ok i get some help now as a amture student, but its not a lot, I still struggle but I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The questions is who is the silly one? Me for being silly enough to go to work/study when I could get free ret etc and a free hol! lol This government has a lot to answer to! When I was in college I couldnt even get a free bus pass to get me to college, I didnt get a penny for studying, only now Im in uni I get help. The government helps ppl who don't want to work, but persecute people who want to make their life better. Pure madness I'd say! OOOh now you got my blood boiling! lol

i,m a single father of three and i,m on the dole. i did,nt chose to be my wife died whilst giving birth to my son. i was working when she died. but now i cant work. i would love to go back to work. i find every day living hard on the money i get. as for a hoilday well thats a no go but i do feel bad for not taking my boys away. if i could get some help to take my sons on hoilday i would except it. even if it was just down the road in a tent. am i the same as these people you talk about. but i do agree with you in most cases.

I have never heard of this before and I was a lone parent for over 10 years. I worked and never received a penny of help towards my bill etc let alone a free holiday. I also have two friends who are lone parents on benefits and yes they do get their rent paid and their ct and the others you listed but never a holiday. However, they are both going back to work once their children start school. Edit* What annoys me as I was a lone parent for 10 years I get lumped with these lazy people who stay at home and don't want to work. Most lone parents I know are doing a brilliant job and are working or at college so they can get back to work after their children start school. We want out children to be proud of us not to see us claiming the blooming social every week.

I totally agree with ya. You work your butt off seven days a week, and what for? So you can send these people away on lovely holidays.. I want my taxes back.....

I have 2 friends on benefits and I know for a fact that neither of them get those treats. No holidays for free, no free school uniforms and no free days out? I am intrigued!

My pal is a single parent on benefits and she doesn't get free holidays...........all she gets is help with rent and ct and dental treatment..............theres no school meals or free day trips or help with school clothes and she is certainly NOT a lazy lowlife.

I was a single parent for many years but i always worked, i paid all my own bills on a very average wage, no free uniforms, school meals or any other special treatment. No holidays for my kids, no money through the csa even. This must be through a charity, the government do not provide any thing like this i promise you.

I have heard of people on benefits getting free holidays before but its only when social services are involved in the family.But it is so unfare no wonder the lowlife don't want to work.
