Are there any other alternative ways to apply for jobs besides online application?

Should the government be looking to create a new British industry in 'alternative' energy?

  • And halt the continued use of fossil fuels? For example rebuild the car industry with firms who build cars which use 'alternative' fuels, Or build up an industry (creating countless jobs) around Nuclear power? (Instead of simply relying on foriegn firms). I think this is one of the ways forward in rebuilding Britians industry, wealth and status.

    Our government has missed a golden opportunity to rebuild our economy as a 'green' one - they will kick themselves in the future for not taking this chance. We should be installing far more hydroelectric power units - we're an island nation for god's sake! why not use all that lovely water for power? Of course, we could not stop using fossil fuels overnight, but the government needs to set stricter targets - and stick to them. We should give grants to companies researching hydrogen power, and put money into changing the infrastructure as soon as hydrogen powered cars are viable etc. instead of hoping they come up with something soon. In the mean time, whilst nuclear is good in terms of low greenhouse emissions, there are huge problems associated with the radioactive waste it produces - what do you do with it? If we built more nuclear power stations, we'd have even more waste to deal with, and it stays radioactive for tens of thousands of years. But yes, we should be trying to rebuild our industry in a green and sustainable way. We should have started doing it ten years ago, but I suppose better late than never... We'll all regret it if we do nothing, and miss this oppertunity.

Ive been saying this for years. Especially given the credit crunch now and so many people being out of work, this may be a perfect time to essentially start again. Build up a whole industry, create jobs, get all our energy needs from renewable resources, reduce carbon emissions and create wealth for the country. What more can you want?

Hydrogen power could be a great way forward - I've always thought that this should be very carefully looked at and money should set aside to research it thoroughly. As the Earth has an abundance of water, hydrogen separation from H2O is relatively straight forward. Hydrogen can give huge amounts of power and is a viable solution to our energy needs. We just need to be able to store it 'safely' ready for use as it is a dangerous gas, and I think that safe storage is the only real problem. Hydrogen has been used to power cars in the past, it can easily develop enough power to turn turbines that produce electricity that can be switched into the national grid, and it burns off 'completely' leaving NO harmful emissions at all.

If only we could find a way to "Clean" Coal we would not need to look Elsewhere Nuclear power? I am afraid I Don't think Nuclear is the Answer in fact you can not clean radioactive waste. It is funny how Wind turbines are replacing where once stood Windmills and organic used to be known as veg you used to get from the Green Grocer The Cleanest is Wind and Solar and where appropiate Tidal and Hydro now try to get the Government to Build more of them its a big NO Instead we have Nuclear plants dotted round great Britain like Terrorist Targets and of course rewarding theses Nuclear Foriegn Firms with enough money to build rockets to ignite them all
