Does the US post office charge for forwarding mail?

US Post Office mail forwarding questions?

  • Hi..... I'm waiting for some mail from immigration... but I suddenly have to move. So I want to use USPS mail forwarding. I heard that the way it works is automated. The computer which sorts mail scans addresses. If its going to my old address the computer will recognize that and it will put it somewhere for forwarding. Is that true? How effective is this system? 99.9% or what? I'm worried because the immigration mail I'm expecting is very important. By the way how does the computer recognize addresses which are handwritten?

  • Answer:

Did you fill out a "Change of Address Card" at the post office in the area where you lived? If you did, your mail will be delivered to your new address!
