How To Get Birth Certificate From Corporation Of Chennai?

Passport for infant and address/surname change for my wife?

  • Hi Iam in deep trouble. I have passport issued from Hyderabad and my wife's passport issued from Delhi. After marriage,we are residing at Chennai and so far we didnt apply for change of address(as our stay in Chennai is temporary) or change of my wife's surname in her passport. Now for our one month old baby, Iam planning to apply for a passport, if so what proof do we need to show that the baby is our child, Is birth certificate alone is enough or do we need to show our both passports as proof(with my wife surname changed to reflect as my surname?) Iam feeling really headache after thinking all these and how long will it take so in short can you please answer these following doubts of mine: 1) My baby was born at my hometown near Hyderabad,so is it a good idea that we need to apply for his passport from place of birth? 2) For applying the baby's passport, do we need to surrender mine and my wife's passport as proof that he is our child etc. Will birth certificate alone sufficient? 3) Will there be any problem if I leave my wife surname as it is i.e no change..so can she get a dependent visa if I have to travel abroad. We have marriage certificate. 4) If its really mandatory that my wife's surname needs to be changed for she has to get depenedant visa, can we apply for her surname change at chennai?(we are staying in chennai for more than year but unfortunately my wife has no proof of her stay at chennai. she is a house wife.) If proof of her stay is really required, how will I able to prove that she is staying here? I hope you got mad by these questions but I am very sure some one should have experienced or heard of same or similar problems, so I request you to kindly clear these doubts, Thanks a ton in advance

  • Answer:

Your wife does not need to have the same last name as you as proof of marriage. If you have a marriage certificate, that should be sufficient. Also, birth certificate should be enough identification to get your child a passport. Your will need some form of ID yourselves, drivers license and passport should be fine. My husband and I have different last names even though we are married. He got his US citizenship last year. No one questions why you don't have the same name as long as your have all the other paperwork like proof of identity, marriage certificate, etc. If your marriage certificate is in another language, you will need to get one in English, everything has to be legible in English to be valid.
