Should i change my name back before getting a passport?

Does your passport number change when you have a name change?

I need to get my passport information changed A.S.A.P and I need to know if when I change my last name on my passport from getting married will change my passport number information?! Any answers or links to confirm your answers would be awesome! Thanks!
Answer:

Depends on the country. My wife's passport has a stamp on the remarks page that states this is a replacement for passport #2229828929 (not the real number). And she didn't change her name!
