How can I get my Portuguese birth certificate?

How can I get my Canadian birth certificate if I don't know my social insurance number?

  • I was born in Quebec, to an American and a Canadian, so I have duel citizenship. I moved to the US when I was little and I got a certificate of citizenship and social security number and whatnot. The problem is, my birth certificate got lost or something, as did my SIN. To my knowledge the only proof of Canadian citizenship I have is my US certificate of citizenship, which says where I was born. Now, I looked at the government websites on how to order a replacement birth certificate, but they all say that they need my SIN to give it to me. And in order to get my SIN I need to show them my birth certificate. I know I should probably contact the Canadian embassy, but what do I say and to whom?

  • Answer:

I just helped my cousin get his and there was nowhere to put a SIN on the application! You can get an application at: http://www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca/publications/FO-11-13%20Birth.pdf Good Luck!
