to start out with i am a us citizen my fiance is a uk citizen. 6 weeks ago i gave birth to my son in canada. i have a list of questions as follows: 1. do i have to wait for the birth certificate from canada to report birth abroad to the us and uk? 2. does anyone know the time length of waiting for a canadian birth certificate? 3. this is a biggy question is there a way for my son to get a US passport when registered even if the canadian birth certificate is not in yet? maybe a recorded birth document might work? 4. there is 3 countries i am working with here. mother (me) US , father United Kingdom, and oops baby born in Canada. US and UK are the only countries we are worried about for dual citizenship on our son. is it possible for our son to hold 3 citizenships? 5. whats the easiest ways to report birth aborad to us and uk? thanks

Answer:
as far as i know, Canada does not apply citizenship by soil, after your child becomes a permanent resident,he will be able to become a Canadian citizen, not before, now for the US? go to this link to report a birth: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/... ,but you will have to, afterwords go to the US embassy in Canada, to get the passport started, at this page: http://www.amcits.com/ you will need both of your birth certificate, and the child also, now for the UK the procedure is almost the same: here is the home page for the UK embassy, find the consulate nearest you, to get consular services: http://www.britishhighcommission.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029395231&a=Collection&aid=1013618514592 since your child was born 6 weeks ago? you should have received his birth certificate already, go to this page to read how to; http://www.canadianbirthcertificate.com/

I can answer part of your questions and the U.S. embassy should be able to answer others. you definetly need to go ( all 3 of you must go together ) to the American embassy or consulate nearest you to register the birth and guarantee his citizenship. I am sure the same is true of the Britisn embassy. As soon as he is registered at the American embassy, he can get an American passport...but he will need that birth certificate and I have no info on that. You could start with a call to the nearest embassy or consulate of the U.S....see sites below...talk to them about this.

Things move like glaciers in Canada. I am posting the info for you as a us citizen to report your childs birth to have the child cliam us citizenship. Go to the us embassy site in canada for help as well and call 1800 O Canada in Canada for help on the birth. Legally the child is canadian citizen so getting a canadian passport first may be easiesty but still slower. you must get the birth cert. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1312.html
