How do I become a German citizen by naturalization?

Become a U.S. citizen through naturalization?

  • Hi, I've been a legal permanent resident of the U.S. for the past 5 years and I want to become a U.S. citizen now, I love the country and the people. I'd like to know this: when you become a naturalized U.S. citizen do you automatically lose your previous citizenship or do you have to claim this when applying? I'd like to become a U.S. citizen without any other citizenship. Any experiences and links are very appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance!

You do not have to do anything about your previous citizenship. If qualified, you will be naturalized based on the requirements of residency, good moral character, etc. If you will retain your previous citizenship based on the laws of your other country is another matter. http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf

Well it depends on the Laws of your home country. The US recognizes dual citizenship. For the most part the only ways that you would loose your citizenship is by renouncing it or your home country stripping you of it. Many countries do not allow for renouncing citizenship.
