im planning to travel within schengen countries such as France and im holding British Travel Document, do i still need to obtain visa?

depends which travel document you have. if it is a visa for entry to united kingdom, then yes, you still need a schengen visa for any country in europe. if it is leave to remain in united kingdom, then yes you still need a schengen visa. you can download the form on the embassy/consulate website of each country
