Overstaying a visa In France?

Do I need a visa to go to Spain, from France, if I am an American citizen with an American passport?

  • Hey! I will be in Lille, France for a study abroad program and am looking to travel to Spain the last week of June for the European Grand Prix. I will be traveling to France without any type of Visa, as France does not require a visa for a short-stay as an American citizen. However, if I were to travel to Spain, it looks like I'd need a Schengen Visa. I would be traveling to Spain from France via plane, as well. Do I need to apply for any type of Visa to travel from France to Spain as an American citizen? Thanks for reading!

  • Answer:

No, as long as your stay in the European Schengen countries is below 90 days you will not need any visa to travel to the other Schengen countries. In fact you will not even be faced with any immigration control on flights between Schengen countries like from France to Spain. Only the airline will check your passport as an ID measure and to see wether you are legally staying in the Schengen zone i.e. hold an entry stamp in your passport which has been entered within the last 90 days..
