What documents do I need to marry my Chinese girlfriend in the UK?
-
She is coming to visit in June for 2 months. We would like to get married then. I've spent the last 30 mins googling trying to find out what the procedure is. The only thing I've found is that certificates of approval will be abolished on 9th May. Anybody know where I can find clear info about what documents she will need so we can get married here in the UK? Thanks in advance.

Answer:
CoA is for non-EU Natioanls resident in the UK already for non-tourist/visit purposes. The visa for your girlfriend depends on if she intends to remain in the UK and settle after marriage or not - you Cannot get married on a simple visitors visa ! Visit to get married and leave afterwards - Marriage visit visa. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf2visitors#564063682 (some 70 odd pounds - you need to declare you will get married on the visit visa) Comming to get married and then convert to Settlement/Spouse visa - Fiance Visa. (some 500 odd pounds + 800 more for the 2 year settlement visa, and 800 more in 2 years) NB there is a minimum english test requirement for Fiance/spouse visa's now, that is before settlement and the Life in the UK test. You will also need to ensure she has been in the UK (technically the parish that she weil be married in) for 1 week before going to an approved registry office (not all can marry foreign nationals), and then 2 more weeks for the banns to be read. - go talk to youir local registry office, they will explain the process, and the choices you need to make for the wedding process - and book an appointment (June will be busy ! if not booked out already) http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/partnersandfamilies/ - Partners and families http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/settlement/ - settling (initially and later for ILR) http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa/ - more documents at 'do I need a visa' - choose Join Family if settling http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/visafees/ - Visa Fees
