How to get italian citizenship?

i am Brazilian, and I want to acquire Italian citizenship. my question is how far back in my ancestry line am i allowed to go? all i have seen in the internet is great grandparent. but i believe my italian ancestor was my great great grandparent. would that be possible? and since i am not sure if it really is my great great grandparent, then where can i go/call to get information on what is needed, what the requirements are. Also (lots of questions, i know), if i cannot find that person's documents, is there a way i could get it through an italian consulate or something? thanks.

You would need documents, birth certificate and death certificate to prove your Italian heritage. Plus even old Italian passport etc
