A small question about Schengen visa to Portugal?

• Hi, I would like to apply for a Schengen visa for a short stay (6 days) visit to Portugal for attending a conference. I have been officially invited to the conference. Travel agencies have let me know that the visa application will be rejected if I do not provide a proof of return. On enquiry of what should be submitted as proof of return, I was told that I should provide my company details (if I own one) and its tax details. However, I do not own a company. My question is: Will the official invitation to the conference and the clear reason for my visit be enough for a visa to be granted? Other than this, I have all the requisite documents, air tickets (also return tickets) have been booked and confirmed and hotel rooms have been booked.

  Every Schengen embassy has slightly different regulations/requirements. Ask at the Portuguese embassy for the exact details. Generally speaking you will need to convince the consular officer that you are planning on returning to India. That means that in addition to your invitation, your health insurance and your return tickets, you should provide anything that shows your intent to return home, e.g. proof of a well-paid job, steady income and the like.
