What kind of visa do I need to go to Germany?

What kind of visa do I need to go to Spain?

  • I am planning on going to Salamanca (Spain) study abroad program for 1 month in June. I call their consulate in New York City ( where I currently live) and I did not receive the proper explanation. So here are my questions. Please help me 1. Since I am having a short stay of 1 month in june. Do I need a Student visa or a tourist visa? I am a Legal Resident of the US and I am from Haiti 2.how far ahead should i apply to get everything done ( latest beginning of may)? 3.How do I apply? Do I fill out all the papers and bring it to the consulate or mail it? 4. What could make the consulate reject your application (money is not an issue, I have enough for my stay). thank you very much for your help and please let me know if there is anything I need to know. i would hate not going to Spain because of a stupid misunderstanding. Thank you everyone

For a one month study you will need a short term Schengen visa type C which will authorize a stay of up to 90 days in a 180 day period. The student visa as mentioned by the beforehand answerer is a different type of visa which usually required for university students staying for a semester, a year or even longer and often takes a longer application process. Regular short-term visa may be applied for no longer than 90 days in advance of the planned travel date. You must apply for it at the Spanish consulate general which consular area covers the state you are living in, in your case New York city. Schengen visa must be applied for in person at the consulates. An application by mail is only possible for well known frequently business travellers. The Spanish N.Y. consulate has established an appoinment system on their website. Visa requirements: 1. Schengen Visa application form, filled out in print and signed, and 1 photocopy. 2. 2 recent passport photographs (35x45mm, 1 3/8 x 1 3/4). Glue the original picture to each application form. 3. Original regular passport or travel document, still valid for at least 6 more months with at least one blank page for the visa. ALL DOCUMENTS LISTED BELOW MUST BE SUBMITTED ORIGINALS AND 1 PHOTOCOPY: 4. Alien Registration Card or notarized copy of it, Visa, Reentry Permit or other USCIS document allowing return to the US. 5. Proof of financial means for the length of stay, at a minimum rate of $700 for up to 9 days, and $70 per each additional day (i.e. bank statement of the last three months) or for students proof could be: • Letter from the Institution organizing the studies stating educational and living expenses have been paid for in advance, or • Notarized letter of parents/custodians, assuming financial responsibility while student is in Spain, or • Current statement of student’s bank account. 6. Official itinerary or airplane ticket for the entire trip (in order to apply for the visa, you do not have to purchase the airplane ticket, but you must have a reservation showing confirmed names and dates of travel). 7. Written confirmation from insurance company of a valid health/ accidental insurance with full international coverage in Spain and rest of Schengen countries with a minimum coverage of $37,000. Or Travel/accidental insurance coverage for the entire trip. 8. For applicants under 18 years of age, a notarized authorization from both parents, with the Apostille of the Hague Convention (contact the Secretary of State for your state of residency) and a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate showing parents’ names. 9. $ 76.80 money order, payable to the Consulate of Spain. No cash or personal checks. This is a non-refundable visa processing fee. What the consulate make reject your application would be if you cannot proof ties to your country and which might them think you are trying to stay and work illegally. I would add any type of proof of your present stay in the USA like a letter authorizing leave for foreign studies from your current study institute or similar proof that you are willing to go back after your stay. If you are going for school reasons you need a student visa otherwise you will not be able to enroll and take classes there. You should start for the visa as soon as possible. It can take a few weeks or a few months to complete. You need to find a consulate for Spain in the US and fill out the papers. (I'm moving to England for 2 years. I had to contact the Britain consulate in the US. I have to attend a meeting as well). A few things could reject your application. The more important ones are if you are a criminal or had any jail time. I'm not sure of other ones. Good luck in Spain!
