Visa for Student Exchange?

International exchange student visa in the USA?

  • I''ve applied for a USA university for 1 semester of exchange study. I do graduate study in Australia and filled out the graduate application, but essentially I'll study courses offered from both undergrad and graduate departments. When doing the application it said select "desired Visa type". I had little idea so I did some research and found out that student visas are F-1 or J-1. My host university never gave me information on this so I just clicked F-1 visa. Turns out international exchange students use the J-1 visa. Does this matter? Is this why my application is still being held up? I hope this doesnt ruin my chances of attending the university of exchange. Such a small error and I had been not told which visa to apply for :( Cheers
