How long does it take to get a schengen visa from the French Embassy NY?

  • Hi, I'm leaving for France on the 25th of June and the earliest possible appointment I could get was on June 14th with the French consulate for a Schengen visa. That means that I have 11 days to get a visa, otherwise my plane ticket will go to waste :[ I already have all the proper documentation and although I am a US permanent Resident, I hold a foreign passport (Burmese, to be exact). Does anyone know how long it will take me to get a visa. Or if you have applied for a visa with the French Embassy, how long did it take you? Would I be able to get a visa within 11 days?

    For citizen of certain countries the other Schengen member must be consulted before a uniform Schengen visa valid for 25 countries can be issued. This adds up additional processing time of 8 days; unfortunately this applies for passport holders of Burma; hence the French Consulate General in Chicago states that the average processing time based on your citizenship is 15 days, the Consulate General in New Yorks talks about two weeks. Also note that based on Pentecost the 13th of June 2011 is a holiday in France which my lead to some additional workload to issue emergency passports for those French citizen who have lost theirs during the long weekend. I am in the same boat as you are.. I have an Indian passport and my visa appointment is for June 15th.... and have to leave to paris on 22nd (latest)... In my case it is a business trip and I work for a french company so I am hoping that they will make an exception for me.. I am also going to tell them not to ship my passport to me.. I would rather come in-person and collect it... that would save 3-4 days of time it would take for the passport to reach me.
